Battle in the Blizzard 2018

In 2015, a strongman/woman contest was born unlike any other on Earth. This contest lured the strongest, most rugged, and most determined champions in the region to the hills of WV to battle for the right to call themselves the best. What was different about this contest? Why did only the most hardy warriors step up to the challenge? The answer is the same reason that will draw great champions again this year; in fact there are 3 answers:
1) This contest will be contested out doors in the middle of the Appalachian cold season. In 2015, early morning temps were in the single digits, 6in of snow fell by 11am, and the afternoon was drenched with freezing rain.
2) No one will know the events prior to the contest. There is no “event practice” for this contest, you must simply be the strongest to win.
3) This is the WV State Championships, and that means it will be a Level II contest, and thus it will be brutal and heavy.

Date/Time- Saturday, Feb 10th. Action begins at noon.
Location- Viking Performance Training, 141 Greenbag Rd, Morgantown, WV 26501
Weigh-ins- Begin at 8am. Weigh-ins will close at 8:30am, then again at 10:30am. Athletes MUST be present by 11:00am regardless.
Rules/Safety Briefing- 11:00am. This meeting is mandatory.
Weight Classes-
Women’s 0-120, 121-140, 141-160, 161-180, 181-200, & 201+
Men’s 0-150, 151-175, 176-200, 201-231, 232-265, 266-300, 301+
Masters, Teen and Open divisions will be offered for each class. No Novice division is offered at this meet.
Consolidation of some classes is possible. I will do my best not to consolidate. Top two Men’s and Women’s Open finishers in each class receive invites to Nationals. Top three in Masters receive invites. There must be 5 or more competitors in a sub-class or it will be consolidated. So tell your buddy to get off his/her butt and sign up!
Awards- State championship worthy awards for 1st place, custom Blizzard medals for 2nd and 3rd

What do you mean “not announced”?
We are not announcing the events before the show! We are going SNOW BLIND!
What is this madness? Surely you jest!
Nope. Blind events. No one will know what the events are prior to the show. Attempts to bribe me will be futile… unless you pay my wife’s student loans off, I’ll fold for that.
Holy crap that’s awesome! So what information can you give us?
Here’s what I can tell you:
- As many events as possible will be contested outdoors. Consider this an Appalachian “Iceman” contest
- I’m a jerk and I don’t like tacky, knee wraps, and super suits. These will not be allowed on any event that we happen to do here. Send your angry letters to the emails listed above. Please keep death threats to a minimum.
- Events will be heavy and we will do our best to offer a well-rounded mix of five events. If conditions are anything like 2015, the weights will be deceiving and the events will be much harder than the weights indicate. Try lifting a 300lb atlas stone in freezing rain and you’ll see what I mean. Do not expect PRs in a meet this rugged.
- Be ready for a high level of competition because only the toughest, grittiest, most fearless competitors will be coming out for a contest like this.
General Rules/Usual Mouser Stuff
- In the event of a tie in the final standings, 1st place finishes will decide the winner. If there is still a tie, then 2nd place finishes will be the determinant, and so on. If a tie cannot be broken this way, athletes will compete in a tie breaker.
- Sportsmanship is expected and required. This is the greatest sport in the world, let’s keep it that way.
- There will be a pre-event prayer. No one is expected to participate, so please do not feel obligated. All we ask is to be respectful of those that do or do not wish to participate.
- This is a drug free contest. If you are juiced feel free to come cheer on your buddies but please do not bother to sign up. Don’t act surprised if you’re asked to pee in a cup.
- If you have a question, please ask! I would rather take a minute to clarify something than to see someone have a poor showing due to a misunderstanding.

In consideration of your acceptance of this entry, I hereby, for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, and my assignees, waive, and release all rights and damages I may have against Paul Mouser, Strongman Corp/North American Strongman, Inc., Dione Wessels, The City of Morgantown, Viking Performance Training, and all sponsors of the event, their representatives and assigns, for any and all injuries incurred by me in conjunction with this competition and in traveling to and from the event. And in further consideration of permission being granted to me to participate in the Battle in the Blizzard and its related events, I hereby grant NAS, Inc. and/or any other approved video or entertainment organization and all of their agents, successors, licensees, and assigns, the right to photograph or otherwise reproduce (whether by film, tape, still photography or otherwise) my voice, appearance, and name, and to exhibit, distribute, transmit, and/or otherwise exploit any and all media, including without limitation, by means of still photography, motion pictures, radio, television, television motion pictures, video, printing or any other medium now known or hereafter devised, including with respect also to any merchandising, advertising, and/or publicity, and the right to use my name and information about me in any connection with any of the foregoing. The rights granted by me hereunder are granted for the entire universe and shall endure in perpetuity and no further compensation shall be payable to me at anytime in connection therewith. Nothing contained herein shall be deemed to obligate NAS, INC., and/or any other approved video or entertainment organization, to photograph or otherwise reproduce my voice, appearance or name, or to make use of any rights granted herein. I also understand that the aforementioned rights may be reassigned at any time without further consent. I understand that NAS, Inc., and/or any other approved video or entertainment organization are videotaping and photographing the Event in express reliance upon foregoing, and I represent and agree that I am free to grant the rights granted to NAS INC. and/or any other approved video or entertainment organization hereunder.
