EVENT DETAILS!

CAR DEADLIFT FOR REPS

So! After some event testing, we have determined how this is going to be run. Due to the difficulty of determining the weight of the car deadlift with a car on it, we have decided to make this a growing car deadlift for reps (except for Women’s 125/140 open, novice, teen, masters and 160/180/181+ novice, teen, masters). Women’s 125/140 novice, teen and masters will have a light and heavy option. We would like to give everyone the opportunity to deadlift a car, so it is an option. BUT.. given how heavy it is, we also have the option to do the car deadlift empty, which comes out to about 185lbs, since we also do not want to see people zero the event. Once we put the car on, it will not be moved off, so your decision on whether you want to deadlift the car or not must be finalized before the start of that event. For this, you will have 60 seconds to get as many reps as possible, any amount of reps with the heavier option trumps reps done at the lighter option.

For the next classes up, (125/140 Open and 160/180/181+ novice, teen, masters) your deadlift will be done with just the Honda Civic, with no option to do it empty. We do not know how much this weighs so please do not ask. If you do email us and ask we will probably reply with someone along the lines of “Friggin’ heavy!” to “Heavy as crap!”, if we reply at all. We believe you are all capable of this, and it has been tested by a women’s 140 competitor, so don’t sweat it!

For all of the classes above that, you will start with just the Honda Civic. Upon each successful rep, weight will be added. Most reps wins. Please refer to the weight chart above to see how heavy your jumps are.

  • Athletes will start behind a line, on the start signal, they will make their way to the apparatus, get strapped in and start reppin’ out.
  • 60 seconds to produce as many reps as possible. Knees and hips must be locked out to produce a good rep, absolutely no bouncing or dropping of the implement (to protect it and whoever’s car is on the implement)
  • There will be an up command on every rep to ensure that the plate loaders have loaded the plates before you start pulling.
  • This is a side handle deadlift with the pick height set to 18″.
  • No deadlift suits or power pants of ANY kind allowed.

CARRY & DRAG MEDLEY

  • 60sec to complete course. Fastest time wins
  • Anyone who does not complete will be credited with distance
  • Athletes must first pick up the Mouser Block & carry it 50ft uphill and deposit it on a crash pad under control. If the Block is not properly steadied on the crash mat, the athlete will have to fix it before he/she can continue onward.
  • Next, athletes will run back downhill, grab the giant mining chains and drag them up the course. You must grab the end link, you can’t grab further in the chain to get more of it off the ground.
  • No sticky stuff allowed

ATLAS STONES OVER BAR

  • An increasingly heavy series of atlas stones must be loaded over the bar (48″ for men, 44″ for women)
  • Hands must start on the yoke. When loading the stone over the bar your hands cannot touch the yoke bar, they must remain on the stone until it is over the bar and falling.
  • 60sec time limit. Fastest time wins. We will be taking split times on stones.
  • Equipment allowed: sleeves, belt, tape, leather forearm gauntlets. Not allowed: tacky, stick um, ectoplasm, rubber shirts.

HERCULES HOLD

  • Staff will help lower the implement until the competitor is holding all of the weight, at which point time will start. Competitors will hold on to the implement for as long as they can at the weight listed for their weight class. This is a max time event, longest time wins!
  • Hook grip is allowed for anyone crazy enough to try it.
  • Equipment allowed: Chalk/liquid chalk, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, belts
  • Not allowed: wrist straps or any grip aid of any kind, tacky towel, chalk with any additives, anything else sticky

About that Mystery Event “Catch”… Yes, the mystery event will be announced 60 days out from the show (August 30th)!… but!!! TWO mystery events will be announced… but ONLY ONE will make it into the show! The second is a DECOY, a PHANTASM of your imagination! The best part? Even VPT promoters won’t know, until a LIVE BROADCAST coin flip the night before the show!!!

Mystery Event 1: Max Distance Keg Carry

Keg will start on a line, once time starts you will have 1 minute to travel as far as you can with the keg. You will travel 50 feet down, turn on the judges command once you cross a line and come back. Furthest distance wins.

  • You will grab the keg on your own time, carry starts on the judges start command, not when you cross a line.
  • No drops allowed, if you drop the keg you are done.
  • No throwing the keg to get further distance
  • Nothing sticky or tacky, no grip shirts.

Mystery Event 2: Barbell Clean and Press for reps, Head to head style!

Two people will start together. One person will clean the barbell, press, it and set it down, then the other person will clean it, press it and set it down. This will continue until one person fails. When one person fails, the next hops in and they continue going. There is no overall time limit to this event, but when it is your turn to press the bar you will have 30 seconds to complete a rep or you are out. Most reps wins.

  • Any type of clean is allowed (power clean, olympic clean, continental, belt clean, etc)
  • Any type of press is allowed (strict, push press, push jerk, split jerk)
  • No lifting straps or hooks, nothing sticky, no grip shirts.
  • Belts, sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk are all okay to use.

General Rules/Usual Stuff

  • If there is a tie in the final standings for a podium finish, the ties will be settled with a tiebreaker!
  • Sportsmanship is expected and required. This is the greatest sport in the world, let’s keep it that way.
  • This is a drug free contest. If you are juiced feel free to come cheer on your buddies but please do not bother to sign up. Don’t be surprised if I show up with a duffel bag full of drug testing kits!
  • If you have a question, please ask! I would rather take a minute to clarify something than to see someone have a poor showing due to a misunderstanding.
